Master’s Application Requirements

• Application Form.
• Non-refundable Application Fee. Waived for M.S. applications submitted by January 15.
• Statement of Purpose. For Master’s students, please be sure your statement addresses the following questions: What are your career goals? How will the Georgetown University MS in GLID help you achieve these goals? What is it about a global infectious disease program, and specifically ours, that you think would help advance your goals versus the other kinds of programs (other MS programs, or MPH, MSPH programs) to which you could be applying?
• Official Transcripts (all prior institutions). Applicants are required to upload to the application system copies of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended.
• Official Recommendations. Three letters of recommendation are required. A professor, advisor, supervisor, or someone with authority should write recommendation letters on an applicant’s academic and/or professional experience.
• Resume/C.V.
• TOEFL/IELTS and WES Evaluations. International Applicants: please see below. Please note that even if TOEFL/IELTS are not required for a given applicant, we do strongly encourage international students to submit WES evaluations with their applications to aid our evaluation of their academic transcripts.
• GRE scores are not assessed for the M.S. or the PhD program.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

English Proficiency:  TOEFL / IELTS

All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Proficiency can be demonstrated by the receipt of a bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the primary language of instruction (please note that applicants receiving degrees at universities in U.S. territories, such as Puerto Rico, are required to submit the TOEFL or IELTS unless the primary language of instruction at the institution is English). All other applicants must achieve at least a minimum score on either the TOEFL or IELTS test. Test scores must be received by the application deadline date. Applicants should allow six to eight weeks from the test date for the reporting of scores to the institution. Applications will not be considered without TOEFL/IELTS scores.

TOEFL: A minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (iBT test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).  Georgetown University’s reporting code is 5244. TOEFL information: http://www.ets.org/toefl/

IELTS: A minimum score of 7.0 from the International English Language Testing System. IELTS Information: http://www.ielts.org

WES Evaluation

For applicants who earned their bachelor’s degree outside of the United States, a transcript evaluation ensures that U.S. accreditation standards, degree, course, and credit equivalencies are met. Many programs at the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences require a transcript evaluation while others strongly encourage one. The transcript evaluation can be done by World Education Services (WES) or any credential evaluation services that are members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). 

Degree Requirements

Completion of the Master’s in Global Infectious Disease degree requires 30 credits of coursework. Completion of a 2-credit capstone project in the final semester of the program serves as a comprehensive examination for the program. More details can be found in the Academics section.

Admission Decisions

Applicants to the Global Infectious Disease program must be in the last semester of undergraduate study or hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. The program Admissions Committee makes all admission recommendations on a case-by-case basis. The Dean of the Graduate School makes all final decisions.
